The Blessing of the Animals - Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, which we celebrated his Feast Day on Oct. 4th, the 12th-century Italian saint and Catholic patron saint of animals and the environment, who viewed all living creatures as his brothers and sisters. The blessing honors the human-animal bond and gives thanks for stewardship over God's creation. Families can also bless their pets at home using a simple verbal prayer and holy water. The following Pet Blessing can be used:
Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures.
You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air, and animals on the land.
You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters.
We ask you to bless this pet.
By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan.
May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.

REMINDER: Let us joyfully welcome our new bishop. Please join us for a Mass of Thanksgiving with Bishop Michael on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6:00 PM. A reception will follow in the Grace Parish Center as we gather in fellowship and gratitude for this blessed moment in our diocesan life.
O God, by whom we are redeemed and receive adoption, look graciously upon your sons and daughters, that those who believe in Christ may receive true freedom and an everlasting inheritance.

O God, who willed that Saint John the Baptist should go ahead of your Son both in his birth and in his death, grant that, as he died a Martyr for truth and justice, we, too, may fight hard for the confession of what you teach.

The Vietnamese Catholic Community at Holy Rosary Chapel: A Journey of Faith, Unity, and Hope
By Fr. Francis Hai Pham
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.” (Psalm 133:1)
The history of the Church has always been a story of people journeying together in faith. Wherever Catholics settle, they bring with them not only their language and culture, but more importantly their love for Jesus Christ, their devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and their desire to remain united with the universal Church. Such is the story of the Vietnamese Catholic Community on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.

Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in His peace.
