Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thank You for revealing Yourself to us in your perfect unity. Help us to reflect Your love and unity in our lives, working together in peace and faith. Empower us to live out the grace and love You give, sharing it with everyone we meet. Amen.
Fr. John Akau, our newly ordained priest in the Diocese of Honolulu, celebrated Mass at St. Michael. Fr. John was assigned at St. Michael last summer. He’s first assignment will be at the Co-Cathedral of Saint Theresa in Honolulu.
Glory be to the Father,
Who by His almighty power and love created me,
making me in the image and likeness of God.
Glory be to the Son,
Who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell,
and opened for me the gates of heaven.
Glory be to the Holy Spirit,
Who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism,
and continues to sanctify me
by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.
Glory be to the Three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity,
now and forever.
Amen.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” - John 19:26-27
The Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church
Monday May 25, 2026
In 2018, Pope Francis established the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church, to be observed annually on the Monday after Pentecost.
Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from your celestial home Shed a ray of light divine! Come, Father of the poor! Come, source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine.
#Pentecost
Pentecost marks the birth of the Church, celebrating the Holy Spirit's descent upon the apostles to bestow courage, unity, and diverse gifts for mission. It invites reflection on overcoming fear, embracing reconciliation, and using personal spiritual gifts to spread God’s love, transforming "waiting" into active, prophetic service in the world.
On May 21, 1864, St. Damien of Molokaʻi was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace in Honolulu.
His priesthood became a gift of mercy, sacrifice, and love for Hawaiʻi.
As our Diocese prepares to receive new priests tomorrow, we pray for our ordinandi. May they be holy, faithful, and courageous priests for Christ and His Church.
St. Damien of Molokaʻi, pray for us.
Pray for our ordinandi.
With joy, the Diocese of Honolulu invites the faithful to the Presbyteral Ordination of Deacon John Akau and Deacon Taylor K. Mitchell.
The Mass of Ordination will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa.
Please keep Deacon John and Deacon Taylor in your prayers as they prepare to be ordained to the priesthood in service to Christ and His Church.
201 years ago today, on May 19, 1825, the proposal for a Catholic mission to the Hawaiian Islands was presented in Rome. Fr. Pierre Marie-Joseph Coudrin accepted the mission for the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, and Vatican approval followed on February 1, 1826. With these first steps, the Catholic mission to Hawaiʻi was beginning to take shape.
