The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a joyful multi-month religious formation program for adults who wish to join the Catholic Church, or if they are already baptized Catholics but did not receive other sacraments, they can become fully initiated into the Church. This wonderful process usually goes on for several months up to a year.
The initial process is called “inquiry” and is a way for you to learn more about the Catholic faith without any pressure or expectations. This talk story phase is intended to be a time for you to inquire and learn more about the Church and the Catholic faith (while inevitably learning more about yourself).This process is designed to answer your questions, walk together with you in your journey of faith, and help you come to a decision that is right for you as you begin to recognize God’s voice in your life.
Participants examine their own faith while learning about the Catholic tradition. Through conversations, online media and presentations, the shared experience of weekly Mass, special liturgies, and other experiences, candidates examine and deepen their faith lives and learn how to be an intentional disciple of Jesus Christ.
Our program can be adapted to meet individual circumstances. We try very hard to accommodate whatever comes our way (busy lives, work schedules, and worldwide pandemics!). As such we can meet in person and/or utilize technology and media to connect (email, text, video chat, etc.). The idea is to journey together and grow in faith and discipleship using all the means available to us.
While the RCIA generally begins each year in September and continues through May, participants are welcome any time. We usually have several opportunities for people to inquire about the Catholic faith without committing themselves to enter the RCIA program (this is the stage called “Inquiry”).
If you have friends or relatives who are 18 or older, and who have not been baptized, please talk to them and encourage them to consider Baptism in the Catholic Church at St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
