Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord - June 1, 2025

In the first reading and Gospel, we hear about the journey of the risen Lord, and in the letter to the Hebrews we can clearly see the depth of Christ's sacrifice, through which he obtained our salvation. Christ goes to the Father but does not abandon his disciples; he keeps his promise to accompany them and promises the Holy Spirit will strengthen the ministry he has called them to. On this solemnity, Christ invites us to once again celebrate God's victory over fear and evil.

Eternal God, on this Memorial Day, we remember those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May their sacrifice be a constant reminder of the need for love and peace in our world. Comfort their families and help us to live lives worthy of their memory. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Six Sunday of Easter (Year C) - May 25, 2025

Today's readings anticipate the Ascension. While the Book of Acts tells of the encounters of Church leaders and their need to agree on some rules for the good of all, the Gospel shows us Jesus offering the gift of peace to all his disciples. The peace we share as servants of the Lord invites us to dialogue with one another despite the differences we may encounter.

O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear our humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Father Larry Denis III. Give him a deep faith, a bright and firm hope, and a burning love which will ever increase in the course of his priestly life.

In his loneliness, comfort him; in his sorrow, strengthen him; in his frustration, point out to him that it is through suffering that the soul is purified. Show him that he is needed by the Church, he is needed by souls, he is needed for the work of redemption.

O loving Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, take to your heart your son who is close to you because of his priestly ordination, and because of the power which he has received to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs him so much. Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength, and especially help him to live and to defend the ideal of consecrated celibacy.
Amen.

Fifth Sunday of Easter (Year C) - May 18, 2025
Through his death and resurrection, Christ renews all things, above all humanity, which he renews with his commandment of love. The "love" Saint John invites us to share is the unconditional love of Christ, who surrendered himself for us, forgiving his enemies. Maybe we haven't reached that profound level of "love" in our lives yet.
